Laura
Sturm teaches in the Meisner program here at Act One Studios. She has
been working as a professional actor in Chicago since 1994 with such
theatres as Signal Ensemble Theatre, Bailiwick Repertory, Remy Bumppo,
Raven Theatre, SummerNite Theatre, Apple Tree TYA, and Breadline
Theatre, as well as a stint in Texas with the Texas Shakespeare
Festival. Favorite local roles include Mrs. Hardcastle in She Stoops to
Conquer, a bloody, goth Medea in The Chorus Rebellion, Imogen in
Cymbeline, Alma in The Christmas Schooner, and Emily in Israel
Horovitz' Alfred the Great.
Laura also directs and serves as an
acting and movement coach in the area. She recently directed the world
premiere of the musical Tuxedo Love for Theatre 5.2.1.
Laura
received her MFA in Acting at Northern Illinois University, where she
studied the Meisner Technique under Kathryn Gately (who studied under
Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse) and Williamson Movement
with Deborah Robertson (who studied under Loyd Williamson at The Actors
Movement Studio in NYC). In 2002, Laura spent part of the summer in
Gardzienice, Poland studying at the Staniewski Center for Theater
Practices with renowned Polish director Wlodzimierz Staniewski.
